Vocational school 2011 - Star of Hope, Argentina

The vocational school in Nam Qom started in the early 1980s. Over the years there have been many different courses depending on demand.

There have been training for hairdressers, bricklayers, electricians and many other professions. During 2011-12 the school offered courses in pastry, cooking, and various handicrafts.

In Argentina, Star of Hope is working primarily with educating children from Toba families in the Chaco Province, about 120 mil north of the capital Buenos Aires. The goal is to give indigenous people, who often live as poor, marginalized groups in their communities, a good start in life and knowledge of their rights and ability to work to realize them.

Most Toba belong to the tribe of Qom, which is their real name. They are often called Toba as well.

Does Sponsorship really work?

Yes, it does! The vast majority of our sponsored children finish primary school and many go on to higher education. In the process, you as a sponsor are extremely important! With your gift you are not only giving material support, you show that you care, this caring increases the children's self-esteem tremendously. The children and their parents get hope that we can change a seemingly hopeless situation.

You can read about some former sponsored children who now live a completely different lives than they would have; without sponsor support.

Here you can find the big list of questions and answers.
